Barcelona

  1. Situated in a restored 17th century stable in the heart of the city, Arcano Barcelona offers a tasty Catalan menu in one of the most unique settings in Spain. The owners are hands on, creating a menu that is as diverse as it is delicious with a great wine list.

2. One of the oldest continuously operating candle makers in Europe, Cereria Subira has been crafting works of art since 1761. You’ll find everything here, from a simple scented jar candle to limited editions. A perfect spot for a unique souvenir.

3. For a perfect step away from the crowds of the city, visit the 14th century Monasterio de Pedralbes. Tour the beautiful grounds and visit their collection of religious art including sculpture, painting, silver works, books and items used during worship. For art and history lovers, this hidden gem is a must.

4. Located on the outskirts of the city is Parc del Laberint d’Horta, a beautiful garden labyrinth. The surrounding grounds are breathtaking and the impeccably manicured labyrinth (820 yards long!) had been challenging visitors since the 18th century. Book this one in advance. It’s only 2euros per person but admission is strictly limited to 750 people per day. This is great for kids and is accessible as well.

5. One of the best, free activities is the light and sound show, Montjuic Magic Fountain. The fountain can produce literally billions of water and music combinations which remind one of choreographed dancers. Always check the schedule and keep in mind that if water saving measures are in effect, the show won’t go on.

6. The Museu de la Musica is one of the most important music museums in Europe. With almost 500 instruments, historic and modern, all framed by red velvet, this important museum is often overlooked. They also offer interactive and family activities making this a perfect visit for families.

7. Barcelona is a city of art, and Pablo Picasso may be the most famous of its artists. A unique way to learn about the city and Picasso’s Barcelona is by joining a walking tour ending at the Museu Picasso.

8. For those that like to mix a bit of adventure with a sightseeing tour, Barcelona Segway Tours is just the thing. Tours are led by licensed guides, who are also experts in getting around the city using a Segway. The selection of tours is extensive, including an intro tour, Gaudi tour, food your and more.

9. The most elegant rooftop experience in Barcelona can be found at Terrat, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. With 360 degree views of the skyline, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail and watch the sunset.

10. Don’t leave Barcelona without tasting local wine and the best, and most fun, is Vi Vinos. They offer wine and cheese tastings, wine and tapas and exciting experiences such as a gin & tonic masterclass and vermouth tasting.
